Second period; first teaching time

Today, I started my first entry in my teaching practicum in this second period. So, I prepared my agenda to teach it in one hour class. I made a warm up as the teacher  Alex suggested me.  Everything was perfect because the students participated in the activity. But the only problem that I faced it is that the group it is too small. There are only 12 students but  the problema is not the number. The problem is that no all of them arrived on time  at class or they do not attend it as the teacher told us the first day when we  went to observed his class.  As I received the order from the mentor  to start the class in the classroom just there were 4 students but the warm up  I had planned was  to work in pairs. So, I  started  it with  them.   It sounds crazy but  I had to  make more time than the normal giving the directions while I was waiting for another couple of students to arrive to the classroom.

Those students are friendly and  cooperative, they always take seriously every   provided activity. Therefore,  they need  to make more practices as much as possible to take advantage of their enthusiasm to learn English. I had planned one writing activity for  10 minutes but they needed more time. I monitored them,  and I saw that they were working on it. So, I decided to give them 3 extra-minutes more to complete every item.  But those 3 extra-minutes caused me problems working in the  next exercises.  Now, I would you like to know what do you  think about the time management that you assign  to your students for every exercise. Is ok to provide extra-time?
