Second period; second teaching time

My second teaching time in this period has been successful because I worked on it making a reading comprehension, the teacher Alex gave me the steps to develop it easily. I just planned the time in my agenda for every step to follow, and everything flowed normally. The students  cooperated on it, they were very active completing every part of  it.   I  provided  one sheet per one student, and they have to read it carefully, I gave them 5 minutes just for reading it. After that, I wanted to play the audio with the reading, and they had to follow the reading but unfortunately, the audio did not work. So, I had to think about one way to read  and listen it.  I decided to choose one student to start reading  and as I said stop,  someone else had to continue the reading.  The only problem that I had here was that I did not give feedbacks to the students after they finished  the reading.

When I went to receive my feedback the teacher told me that I had to give feedbacks to my students after finish the reading because they need to know what words they pronounced incorrectly. So, I did not imagine that was my responsability to correct them. Now, I already want to put in practice these kind of experiences I have learned. I know that it was something for which  I was not prepared.

Second period; first teaching time

Today, I started my first entry in my teaching practicum in this second period. So, I prepared my agenda to teach it in one hour class. I made a warm up as the teacher  Alex suggested me.  Everything was perfect because the students participated in the activity. But the only problem that I faced it is that the group it is too small. There are only 12 students but  the problema is not the number. The problem is that no all of them arrived on time  at class or they do not attend it as the teacher told us the first day when we  went to observed his class.  As I received the order from the mentor  to start the class in the classroom just there were 4 students but the warm up  I had planned was  to work in pairs. So, I  started  it with  them.   It sounds crazy but  I had to  make more time than the normal giving the directions while I was waiting for another couple of students to arrive to the classroom.

Those students are friendly and  cooperative, they always take seriously every   provided activity. Therefore,  they need  to make more practices as much as possible to take advantage of their enthusiasm to learn English. I had planned one writing activity for  10 minutes but they needed more time. I monitored them,  and I saw that they were working on it. So, I decided to give them 3 extra-minutes more to complete every item.  But those 3 extra-minutes caused me problems working in the  next exercises.  Now, I would you like to know what do you  think about the time management that you assign  to your students for every exercise. Is ok to provide extra-time?

My third teaching experience

For my  third teaching time, I had to work developing writing and speaking skills. So, it was pretty nice the moment when I provided each appendix to the students in order to work correctly. I had a good objective to work with them because every activity was enough to measure if they had understood the gramnmar topic. Therefore, at the end of the class, I felt happy because I saw that they have worked correctly. Also, Some students that are shy were asking me about the structure of the sentences they had to write or discuss. On the other hand,  they showed me a lot of enthusiasm in every activity. So,  I monitored  if all the students were working correctly  but some of them had doubts  to complete the exercises, vocabulary and the grammar structure so I had to explained them carefully, and also I gave them examples  to complete the exercises. In some cases I had to show them my personal exercises to facilitate the ideas to work

The only problem that I had was about the time programmed for every activity. For example,  I had planned 10 minutes for a written activity but unfortunately, I had to extend on it for 5 minutes more. It happened because some students did not have finished to complete the exercises during the programmed time. As you already know we work following an agenda that show us the time for every activity developed. So, these 5 minutes that I had to extend in the first  writing activity made me to extend another 5 minutes in the next one. I would like to know if it was correctly providing the extra-minutes  to finish the exercises. Well, I am open to know from your teaching experience  what do you think about  the time  for every activity or just let me know what should I do to manage better the time in my next teaching experience.

My second teaching experience

For my second teaching time, I had to teach grammar.  The topic was  causative verbs in active and passive way. So, it was a hard challenge for me because as everyone knows is difficult to make a perfect introduction in teaching it. I had good expectations about it but unfornutaly everything was totally diferent when I was in front of the students. So, I trried to do my best from me explaining the grammar structure and the fuction of every verb ( get, have and make.) I pasted visuals in the board, and I explained them but unfortunately for me was not easy to catch the students's attention because I think that I needed more than 20 minutes to introduce it.

I am sure that I do not have enough experience in teaching grammar as we most of us do not have in it.  I know some techniques or methods but when I want to apply them in the classroom everything changes. Therefore, it is something that we should to start working hard because we have a long path in this subject. I am more than sure that students needed more examples  usign every verb but they needed at least two different practices( written and oral.)

My second teaching experience has been positive because although I felt insecurity in , I am not discouraged; however, I have learned that teaching grammar is not just to go the classroom and introduce the topic because you know that some students have weakness in grammar and grammar is so important in our students. So. let me know what should I do the  next time that I have to teach grammar.

My first teaching experience

I arrived to the classroom 10 minutes ago and  just 3  students  and Karla, my classmate  were  there.  I said hello to everone and inmediately I  start ordering the material I was prepared for my first teaching  time. I gave a piece of paper to  each student, in which they wrote their names to start making the first contact with them.  As they finished it,  they pasted it in a side of their desks. I was a little nervous while students were talking their personal topics. The teacher arrived to the classroom, and  I gave her my agenda. I had already written  in the board the date, objective and the activities I   planned.
I started developing the warm up, "the hunter, the rabbit and the wall." I gave the directions to the students, and  I saw them developing  it with a lot of enthusiasm and funny. So, it increased my personal  confidence ir order to continue with my agenda. Unfortunately, something that made a pause with the activity was the students that entered later to the class when the activity had already started. But it was my first challenge I had to face and I included them to become part of the game. Some students asked me by new words they did not understand  and I had to explained them using synonims to clarify their doubts.

Before to present the grammar topic I decided to use flashcards to prepare students’ attention in what we had to work.  However, it was so confused for some students to understand  the directions correctly. while other students were distracted checking their  cellphones So, I made a pause and asked them,  If I could continue with the class, and I started passing the flashcards and they had to continue repeating the sentences. Unfortunately, there were students that did not say the sentences completelly.   Finally, I started presenting the grammar topic, it was not too easy because I did not have enough time. but I gave them some examples because the time was running out and, I  had more activities to develop. I hope to do better in my next teaching practicum and achieve all my expectations,
